Abeln Floor Systems has served the St. Louis region with complete hardwood floor services for over 28 years. We pride ourselves in doing things right the first time whether you need a new site-finished or prefinished wood floor installed or an existing wood floor sanded and refinished. We always use the latest and highest quality equipment and materials available. Our experienced, highly skilled artisans are very process-oriented in delivering exceptionally well-crafted works of flooring art. We have extensive training and experience including custom installations with borders and medallions as well as restoration of historic floors. Our craftsmen always provide extensive dust control measures prior to start of work to minimize dust in your home.
All of our friendly, personable craftsmen have a minimum of four years to twelve years of experience in all phases of wood floor services including installation of new site-finished wood flooring, prefinished solid and engineered wood flooring, and repairing, sanding, staining and finishing of existing wood floors with all types of floor finishes. We also do a considerable volume of buff and recoat work for floors that just need a fresh coat of oil or water based finish.
If your existing wood floors need repair we offer exclusive "age-matched" repairs using reclaimed flooring which will blend with your historic floor for a perfect match every time! If we cannot source the correct material from one of our company warehouses, we can usually source the material from our network of suppliers. We can source many species of flooring including 1880's white pine, quartersawn yellow pine, Douglas fir, maple, quartersawn red or white oak, depression oak, cypress, red and white oak peg and plank and many other species, grades and sizes of flooring. We have the ability to manufacture any type of flooring from 3/8" x 1 1/2" white oak to 1" x 12" stair treads in lengths up to 16 feet. We also supply and install custom milled wide plank flooring from reclaimed lumber of all descriptions.
We always allow ample time during the initial bid to make sure your questions are thoroughly answered and that all details of the job are communicated on our job sheet to allow for an accurate bid and to avoid any surprises later. We like to educate our customers about wood species, available finishes, sanding and finishing techniques and any other pertinent information to allow customers to make informed decisions.

ABOUT THIS PHOTO:Old growth 9" wide southern yellow pine plank flooring reclaimed and remilled from bleacher seating provided by Abeln Floor Systems. The 16 foot lengths of the bleacher material in this kitchen allowed an installation free of butt-joints as preferred by the owner. This material was double grooved, splined and installed in a historic home in Washington, MO. Abeln Floor Systems sanded, lightly stained and applied three coats of oil-based polyurethane finish. The aged appearance is the result of about three years of ambering combined with the somewhat recent age of the material (c. 1955). This batch of flooring contains approximately 20% of "heart pine" content (the highly desireable reddish-brown color from planks milled from the center or "heart" of the tree). Note that this picture, taken in the winter when wood tends to shrink, shows a still-tight installation which is virtually unheard of for any type of wide plank flooring. Part of the reason for this is that reclaimed flooring has an extremely low moisture content which allows for superior stability and freedom from shrinkage.
Proudly serving the entire St. Louis metropolitan area.
